Students research and learn about an event of the War of 1812 from a number of different sources. They write a poem that expresses a historical perspective.

Students compare various poems and songs that explore the War of 1812. They conclude their work by responding to the focus question: “How can poetry and song help us to understand the significant events, individuals and perspectives of history?”
Students create their own poetry/song for the War of 1812 and write an expository essay based on what they have learned through the previous two lessons.
Students reflect on the concept of cause and consequence through a personal example, and explore the causes of First Nation’s involvement in the War of 1812.
Students explore the consequences of First Nation’s involvement in the War of 1812. As well, they examine the ways that the events of the War of 1812 are still relevant today, through the concept of continuity and change.
